Make a belongings checklist before a renters quote

A short inventory makes it easier to describe what you own. Start with the things you use every day and add details as you go.

Work through one room at a time

List furniture, clothes, electronics, kitchen equipment and other belongings. Add a photo folder for each room so you can find the information again without searching through your entire phone.

Add useful details

For important items, record the brand, model and purchase information you have. Keep receipts or serial numbers where available. You do not need to finish a perfect spreadsheet before asking an agent for help.

Prepare questions about special items

Make a separate list of jewelry, collections, instruments or work equipment. Ask the agent how the proposed policy treats each item and whether any separate limit or option applies.

Keep the inventory useful

Store a copy somewhere you can access if your device is unavailable, and update it after a move or major purchase. Do not send your full inventory through a general website contact message.

Does making an inventory guarantee that every item is covered?

No. The inventory is a record of your belongings. Ask the agent to explain the policy's coverage, limits and exclusions.
